To write your finals, you need to make an ICB exam booking first. You can choose when, where and how you want to write your exam. Once you have made your booking and paid your course fees, you will get access to your ICB digital portfolio of evidence (PoE).
How Can I Book ICB Exam?
If you are studying ICB courses via distance learning, you can follow these easy steps to make your ICB exam booking on the ICB student portal:
- Go to enter assessments
- Select a subject to write
- Pick an exam venue
- Choose an available exam date
- Add items to basket
- Get a final review of selected items
- Make a payment
Go To Enter Assessments
Once you have registered as an ICB student, you can book your exam on the student portal. On the left side of the screen, click on ‘enter assessments’. You will be able to book your final exam from here.
Select A Subject To Write
Choose a subject that you would like to write during the exam from the drop-down menu. Make sure that the subjects you choose fit your career, goals and that you are prepared to write. You should also ensure that you are choosing the correct information.
Pick An Exam Venue
After choosing a subject, you need to choose an exam venue. You can choose to write between the paper or online exam if it is available for that subject. If you want to write the paper exam, you must ensure that you are close to one of the five exam venues in South Africa:
- Akasia Country Club
- Glenwood Presbyterian Church
- Benoni Central Methodist Church
- Goodwood Sports Club
- IBTC – Sandton
Since there are limited exam venues available, the venues fill up quickly. To get a seat at the exam, ensure that you book your exam quickly to avoid missing out on writing your finals.
Choose An Available Exam Date
After selecting the subjects and venue, you will need to search for available assessment dates. You will get a list with the available dates where you need to choose one on which you would like to write. Make sure that you are available to write on that day before you choose.
Add Items To Basket
All the items you chose will appear on the screen. Click on ‘add to basket’ when you are complete and happy with your choice. Here you can check if the items are correct. If not, you can click on the ‘x’ to remove it or clear the basket to start all over again.
Get A Final Review Of Selected Items
You will have one last chance to check the items you chose. If you proceed to checkout and make a payment, you will not be able to make any changes. You can use this opportunity to check if the billing address is correct. Click submit when you are done to make a payment.
Make A Payment
You can pay via credit card, debit card or EFT. All payments on the ICB student portal are secure through PayFast. After paying for the booking, you will get access to your digital portfolio of evidence (PoE).
How Do I Register For ICB?
You must create a profile on the student portal before you can register as an ICB student:
- Open the latest version of Google Chrome.
- Search and click on the ICB website.
- Go to the student login at the top of the page.
- Click ‘register’ to start the process.
- Complete the form and click ‘register’ again to go to the learner registration page.

How Does ICB Online Exams Work?
ICB online exams take place online at a location of your choice. These exams are from 09:00 to 13:00, but all sessions close automatically at 16:30. To write the exam, you must meet the online exam requirements and complete the pre-check.

The ICB online exam technical requirements are all the tools you need to complete your finals. Without them all, you will not be able to complete the exam:

Stable Internet Connectivity
Since the exam takes place online, you need to have a stable internet connection for the duration of the exam. You must have:
- A wired connection – preferably network cable
- Up to 5GB data for the exam.
Hardware
This includes the hardware permitted to complete the exam. This does not include study notes or material. It includes:
- A desktop computer or laptop
- Webcam with a 1280×720 resolution
- 4GB ram
- Basic or scientific calculator

To write the exam without any issues, you must ensure that you have the following software for both Windows and Mac users:

Classroom-based students can get their results from their college. Distance learning students view their results on the student portal. Your results will also be emailed to you.
How Is ICB Marks Calculated?
Your ICB results are a combination of your digital portfolio of evidence (PoE) and final exam:
- ICB Poe counts 30% towards your final mark.
- Final exam counts 70% towards your results.
What Is The Pass Mark For ICB Exam?
To pass your ICB exams, you need to get at least:
- 50% in your ICB final exam
- 60% as a final pass mark
Please note: There are no pass requirements for ICB digital portfolio of evidence (PoE). But you must pass all your assignments and tests to be considered competent.
What Happens When You Fail An ICB Exam?
You have two options when you fail the ICB final exam:
- Rewrite
- Re-mark
Rewrite
Get a second chance to pass your ICB course with an exam rewrite. Apply for the rewrite as soon as you get your results and pay the full exam fee. If the next available exam date is within the same calendar year, you do not need to complete a new portfolio of evidence (PoE).
Re-mark
ICB pride itself in delivering quality education and completing the ICB exam without error. But if you think your marks are miscalculated, you can request a re-mark. An examiner will issue a full report on your results. You must apply within a month of getting your results and pay the re-mark fees.
