Department of Higher Education and Training Registration

The Further Education and Training Colleges Act (Act 16 of 2006) says that providers of education have to register with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). They need to do this if they intend to offer National Qualifications (qualifications registered with NQF) that have an NQF level of 2, 3 or 4.

Skills Academy has applied for registration, and we are awaiting the outcome from the DHET. We have received an acknowledgment of receipt of our application from the DHET. You can view the letter here.

Should a Training Institution be Accredited?

If you want potential employers to recognise your qualification, then yes, it is a good idea that the institution is accredited. A training institution needs to go through a process before it gets its accreditation.

When a training institution is inspected, the accrediting body looks at the ability of the training institution to offer the course. This means they look at the structures, venues, study materials, financial health, tax status and BEE status, as part of the accreditation process. Skills Academy has passed these and all the other accreditation requirements in full.
