We know many important obstacles can get in the way when it comes to your studies. ICB knows this too. Which is why there is an ICB exam cancellation process. You can cancel as many exams as you want, as long as you submit your request in the proper timeframe.
How Do ICB Exam Cancellations Work?
If you cannot attend the exam you booked with ICB, you are free to cancel it by filling out a form on the ICB website. This is different from postponing. Cancelling an exam means you do not have plans to write it on another date (yet). When you cancel, it also means:
- ICB will remove you from the attendance register.
- Your name will be marked as cancelled instead of absent on your results.
- You free up space for another student (for paper-based exams at in-person venues).
- You can rebook your exam for any other time, using the ICB student portal.
Can Classroom-Based Students Cancel Their Exams?
Classroom-based students can only cancel their exams through their training provider. They should not use the online form. It is only for distance-learners and self-study students.
Can You Cancel More Than One ICB Exam?
Yes, you can cancel more than one ICB exam. But you must be sure to fill out separate forms for each subject you would like to cancel.
How Do I Know If My Exam Was Cancelled Successfully?
Once you submit your cancellation form, you will receive a confirmation email from ICB. You will then receive a ticket/case number. It will take about two business days for your cancellation to be processed.
Please note: Cancelling and postponing are not the same, if you decide to cancel your exam you will not get your money back. When you decide to book your exam again, you will have to pay the full fee.

Can I Postpone My ICB Exam?
If you are not ready to write your exam yet, you can postpone it to a different date. Before you decide to postpone, you must check that there are other dates available for your subject. There are two types of postponements:
- No-Charge (Mitigating Circumstances) Postponements
- Voluntary postponements
How Do I Request A No-Charge Postponement?
A no-charge postponement is only for students who missed an exam because of circumstances outside of their control. This includes illness, death in the immediate family, internet issues and more. If this is you, you should:
- Read and understand ICB’s assessment policy (you can skip ahead to section 13 in this case).
- Fill in the online application form.
How Do I Do A Voluntary Postponement?
Voluntary postponements are for students who feel that they are not yet prepared to write, or wish to switch from online to paper exams and vice versa. Follow these steps to postpone:
- Step 1: Log in to the student portal.
- Step 2: Click on the ‘my exams’ tab.
- Step 3: Check the ‘my booked exams’ tab to view all your confirmed exams.
- Step 4: Go to the ‘my postponement options’ tab to see all the future exam dates you can choose from.
- Step 5: Click on the ‘postpone’ button next to your preferred date.
- Step 6: A list of venues will pop up after you have clicked ‘postpone’ (you will not see this option for online exams)
- Step 7: Select your venue. If no venues show, it is because they are full.
Please note: You can only postpone your exam once. So if you log in to the student portal and do not see an option to postpone, it could be because you have already postponed it once before. Please contact [email protected] if you have any issues.

Where Is The ICB Exam Centre?

- Glenwood Presbyterian Church
- Goodwood Sports Club
- IBTC Sandton
- Akasia Country Club
- Benoni Central Methodist Church
- Damelin – East London
The list above seems shorter because the physical exam venues have been reduced to main centres only. If you live far away from these places, it is best to write the online exams.
How Does The ICB Online Exam Work?
In terms of content, the ICB online exam works exactly the same as the paper-based exams. The only real difference is that one is completed with pen and paper, and the other is digital. They are marked the same and even have the same structure, which includes:
- True or false questions
- Multiple choice questions
- Fill in the gaps
- Long questions
Paper-based exams are supervised by in-person invigilators, whereas online exams are invigilated through live-streaming since you will be completing it from home.
Please note: As a student, it is your responsibility to ensure (ahead of time) that the computer you use meets the technical requirements for the online exam. You can find the technical systems check in your PoE. Feel free to complete this check as many times as you want.
How Long Is The ICB Exam?
Both the paper and online exams are three hours long. But there are an extra 30 minutes set aside for set-up. So you can expect to spend at least three and a half hours at your exam venue.
How Must I Contact ICB During The Online Exam?
If you have an urgent issue or a question during your ICB exam, you can contact their support team via the chatbox on MACCI. This function will only be available for the duration of the exam, and you can find it in the bottom right of your screen. When using the chatbox, make sure to enter the same email address that you used to register with ICB. This way they can confirm that you are a registered student.
Can Online Exams Detect Cheating?
Yes, online exams can detect cheating. There is special software to invigilate you during your exam. This includes your webcam and an eye tracker, as well as a programme to monitor the movements you make on your computer. Cheating is a very serious offence, and if you are caught you will face serious consequences from ICB. The disciplinary board could decide to:
- Let you off with a warning.
- Expel you from ICB.
- Ask you to pay a fine of up to R5000 to cover the costs of the disciplinary hearing.
What Happens If You Fail An ICB Exam?
If you did not pass your ICB exam, it is not the end of the world. There are two options available. You can either:
