Types Of ICB Exemptions
There are two types of ICB exemptions:
- Prior learning exemption – Use the credits from your qualification to get an exemption. The qualification needs to be relevant to the course you want to study and be obtained within the last five years.
- Work exemption – Your work experience can be used as credits to help you enrol into a course. You must ensure that your experience is relevant to the programme you want to study.
How To Apply For ICB Exemptions
There are four steps you need to complete to apply for ICB exemptions:
- Create a profile on the student portal.
- Pay the application fee for RPL.
- Submit the supporting documents.
- Read and submit the guidelines for RPL.
Does Unisa Recognise ICB Qualifications?
Yes, they do, but only through recognition of prior learning. If they accept your qualification, you can study with them. But if they reject your application, you can choose to study with:
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

No, you cannot. Since the ICB is not a college, you will not be able to study directly through them. You must register with an ICB training provider to study ICB courses.
You can choose to rewrite your ICB exam. This allows you to get a second chance at passing the subject. If the exam is in the same academic year, you will not need to complete a new PoE.
