Recognition Of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning, or RPL is when you use the skills you gained through work experience or previous courses, to study further in a similar field. A successful RPL application can give you exemptions for your course. This means that you can receive credits for certain subjects or go ahead and study a course that you did not meet the full requirements for.
How Do ICB Exemptions Work?
You can get ICB exemptions per subject. Your application will only be considered if the course you studied before was accredited by the NQF and is no more than five years old. If you are applying with work experience, ICB could also ask you to complete a PoE. This is to prove that you have enough knowledge to complete the course. Before you accept any exemptions, you must be a registered ICB student. In 2023, your ICB RPL will cost:
- Application fee – R510
- Exemption fee per subject (no PoE required) – R430
- RPL PoE fee per subject (PoE required) – R995
