ICB Financial Accounting courses have credits that show how much learning is needed to complete the course. Each subject you pass gives you a certain number of credits. When you have enough credits, you can earn your full qualification.

You do not need high school maths to study ICB Accounting courses online. The courses teach you the maths skills you need, such as working with percentages and doing basic calculations. This means anyone who is willing to learn can succeed.

The ICB Financial Accounting programme is made up of different levels on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Each level builds on the one before it, starting at NQF Level 3 and going up to NQF Level 6. The higher the level, the more advanced the skills you will learn.

To get an ICB (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) certificate, you need to successfully complete the requirements for your chosen ICB course. Here’s the process:

  1. Register for Your ICB Course Enrol with an accredited college such as Skills Academy, which will register you with the ICB.

  2. Complete Your Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) This includes assignments, tests, and practical activities done during your course. Your PoE counts toward your final mark.

  3. Write the ICB Exam You must register for and pass the final ICB exam for each subject. The overall pass mark is 60% (combined PoE and exam results).

  4. Meet All Requirements Complete all subjects within your programme, ensuring you meet the qualification’s specific NQF level criteria.

  5. Receive Your Certificate Once you’ve passed, the ICB will issue your certificate, which is SAQA-registered and nationally recognised. If you’ve completed all levels, you’ll receive the final qualification certificate (e.g., National Diploma).

The ICB (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) offers practical, SAQA-recognised courses in bookkeeping, accounting, business management, and office administration. You can start with Grade 10 and progress to an NQF Level 6 national diploma.

ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is an advanced, internationally recognised professional qualification in accounting, auditing, and financial management. It usually requires Matric with maths, a diploma, or a degree, and prepares you for senior accounting and finance roles globally.

ICB is best for building your career foundation, while ACCA is aimed at higher-level, specialised accounting positions.

For most accounting courses, you’ll need Mathematics (or Mathematical Literacy for some entry-level programmes) and English. At school level, subjects like Business Studies and Accounting can give you an advantage, but they’re not always compulsory.

If you don’t have Matric, you can still start with entry-level courses like the ICB National Certificate in Bookkeeping through Skills Academy, which only requires Grade 10. From there, you can work your way up to higher accounting qualifications.
