How are Matric Results Calculated?
25% of your matric mark comes from the assessment you have done throughout the year. This includes your assignments, class tests and exams. The other 75% comes from your final matric exam.
Matric Symbols
Each matric symbol gives you provisional acceptance into a specific study programme. Depending on what you want to study, these marks can greatly affect your future plans:
Higher Certificate: This matric symbol gives you provisional entrance into any college or certificate course.
Diploma Pass: You will be able to study at a Technikon or study a diploma course.
Bachelor’s Degree Pass: You will get provisional entry into any University or degree course.
Their Meanings
To pass your National Senior Certificate (NSC) you will need at least 40% in three subjects, including your home language and 30% in three other subjects. To obtain a specific matric symbol, you will need to get a required percentage. Have a look at these below:
Higher Certificate
To gain a higher certificate pass, you will have to get the following marks:
- Meet the minimum requirements for a NSC (This includes 40% for your home language).
- Obtain at least 30% for the language of learning at the institution you are applying for.
Diploma Pass
In order to receive a diploma pass you must get the following marks:
- Meet the minimum requirements for a NSC ( This includes 40% for your home language).
- At least 40% in four subjects.
Bachelor’s Degree Pass
Want to enrol for a degree programme? You will need:
- Meet the minimum requirements for a NSC (This includes 40% for your home language).
- At least 50% for four subjects.
- Obtain at least 30% for the language of learning at the institution you are applying for.
Where can I get my Matric Results?
The matric 2024 results will be released in January 2025. You can access them on the following methods:
Cellphone: Use the USSD code *120*35658#. Follow the steps provided, enter your ID number and get your results per subject.
News Websites: News websites will update their pages with matric results the day of release.
From Your School: Your school will be able to provide you with your final results.
Online: Visit education.gov.za and click on the link for 2024 NSC exam results.
