How to Find a job in South Africa

South Africa is an amazing country with a rapidly growing job industry. Knowing how to find a job takes half your stress away. There is more than one way you can find a job. 

Online 

The internet is a great resource  when it comes to finding a job. Most companies post vacancies online to reach a broader range of people. They also make use of recruiting sites that you can sign up for. Once you are signed up to these sites you receive notification of job vacancies straight to your phone. 

Newspapers 

Newspapers have been used to spread important information for years. You can even find openings in almost every newspaper. All job vacancies are in the classifieds section of a newspaper. This will usually be at the back or on the last few pages of newspapers. You can collect several newspapers perhaps from different areas and go through the classifieds section. 

Word of Mouth

Friends and family can be a great help when looking for a job. They could know of an open position at the company they work for. When getting job recommendations from friends and family, they might not be able to give you specific details on the position available. Which could be a disadvantage. 

Types of Jobs 

There are several different industries you can work in. Each industry consists of different job positions that you can specialise in. For example if you choose to go into retail, you can focus on being a sales assistant, manager, store manager or supervisor. 

Full-time

Full-time employment or permanent employment means exactly that. As a full-time employee you work from Monday to Friday.  Before becoming a full-time employee, you will go through a 3 month trial period. After your trial period you will then be offered a permanent position with the company. Most people prefer working as full-time employees because of the benefits that come with it.

Part-time

Job Seekers Preparing for an Interview

Preparing for an interview might seem unnecessary because you won’t know what to expect. However it can actually work to your advantage. There are tips that help prepare you for your interviews. Allowing you to feel confident, less anxious and it will make you come across as a  professional. 

Create a CV

A CV is a document summarising your academic achievements, work experience. Your CV shouldn’t be longer than two pages as it should only contain important information about yourself. Before applying for a new job, always update your CV.

Write a Cover Letter

A cover letter is an important part of job hunting. Your cover letter will motivate why you should be considered for the position. It should be personal and professional and shouldn’t be longer than a page. Add information on the company and position to show that you have done your research. 

Do Research on the Business

Once you are offered an interview, do some research on the company. It will give you an advantage if you are asked any questions in the interview and it will show that you came well prepared. So even if you have some knowledge on the company, do some in-depth research to broaden your knowledge.
