When is the Matric 2023 Exam?
The adult matric 2023 exam will take place during the May/June examination period. This will happen at an exam centre nearest to you. This is different from the NSC final matric exam, which takes place around Oct/Nov each year.
Who can Register for the Adult Matric 2023 Exam?
Registrations are open to all adults who want to achieve their amended senior certificate. But to enrol for the exams, you need to meet the entry requirements. These include:
- Having a grade 9 certificate or equivalent
- An incomplete National/ Senior Certificate
- Be 21 years and older
Please note: If you are a current matric student, or matriculated between 2008 and 2019, your exam registrations will open February 2022.
Documents you Need for Your Exam Registration
To avoid any delays in your registration, make sure you have all the necessary documents ready. The documents you need to submit are:
- Completed matric exam registration form
- Certified copy of your ID (South African applicants)
- A certified copy of your passport (foreign applicants)
- If applicable, you need to submit your highest qualification if you are redoing matric (This includes the exam number you had for those exams)
How to Register for Matric 2023 Exam
If you’re ready to register for the exams, we are ready to help. There are two ways you can register for the matric 2023 May/June exams. Choose a method that works for you. You can register:
- At an Education District Office
- Online Registration
Education District Office
To register in-person, you can go to your nearest education district office. If you aren’t sure where it is, you can contact your provincial education office. They will help you register from start to finish.
- When you register in-person, you need to have all your documents printed out. This will make it easier to submit.
Online Registration
If you want to register for the matric exams online, you need to sign up to the e-Government Portal. Once completed, follow the easy steps. If you’re unsure on how to register, use our easy exam registration guidelines.
- When you register online, make sure you have your PDF or digital files ready to upload.
Deadline for the Adult Matric 2022 Exam Registration
No time to waste! The deadline for the Matric 2022 exam registration is 31 January 2022. If you don’t register before the due date you won’t be able to write the exam. So hurry and make your second chance at success count.

If you think you can sit back after you’ve registered, think again. Now the real work begins. To make sure you pass your matric, you need to study way ahead of the exams. Use your matric exam timetable to create a study schedule. You should also:
- Use matric past exam papers to prepare for the exam
