Did you know, you can get a second chance at passing your ICB exam? That’s right! Your low results shouldn’t have to haunt your dreams and determine your future. Get up to speed on your options if you failed the ICB exam and achieve the marks you deserve.
What are Your Options if you Failed the ICB Exam?
There are two ways in which you can level up your skills and pass your ICB course. Each option has its own outcome. So make sure you choose one that works for you. Take a closer look at your options if you failed the ICB exam below:
Rewrite Your ICB Exam
Received “not yet competent” on your ICB results? Well if at first you don’t succeed, rewrite your ICB exam. This is available to all students who failed their test. There’s no need to redo your assignments and tests if your new exam date is within the same academic year. But remember, ICB content is updated each year. So get a move on asap. To rewrite, you need to:
- Re-register for the exam
- Pay the full exam fee
What Happens When you Fail the Rewrite?
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to rewrite it a second time. You will need to redo the subject, including the PoE. This does not apply to the Research Theory and Practice (RTP) exam.
Request a Re-mark for Your ICB Exam
The ICB follows strict protocols when marketing tests, assignments and your Portfolio of Evidence (PoE). But if you think there might have been an error, you can request a re-mark. An examiner and moderator will give you a detailed report on your results. This can take up to 28 days. To request a re-mark, you need to:
- Make sure you apply within a month of receiving your results
- Understand section 6 of the exam policy
- Complete and submit the re-mark application form
- Pay the re-mark fee of R1050
- Submit proof of payment
What if the Results Stay the Same After Re-mark?
The moderator has the final say when it comes to your re-mark. This includes whether your marks increase or decrease. So after the re-mark, these will be your final results.

ICB Exam Pass Requirements
Your ICB results are divided in two. The formative assessment makes up 30% of your final results. Your summative assessment counts for 70% of your marks. So the exam makes up a huge chunk of your results. To pass the exam, you need to get a minimum of 50%.
Does an Unsuccessful Online Exam Mean you Failed?
Technical difficulties can happen at any time. Even during your online exam. So if it’s beyond your control, you do not fail the exam. Make sure you contact the ICB when experiencing any issues. You could qualify to postpone your exam to the next available exam date.
