Tips to Help you Identify Your Learning Style
There is no one-size-fits-all way to study. What works for your friends might not work for you. Everyone learns differently. So make use of these tips to help you identify your learning style. It will make studying easier and a lot more enjoyable.
Different Learning Styles
There are four main learning styles. So to figure out what works for you, think about what makes your study sessions good or bad. Your learning style could be either one or a combination of the following:
- Visual
- Auditory
- Reading/Writing
- Kinesthetic
Visual
If you forgot what was said in class, but clearly remember the pictures or videos used, you could be a visual learner. This means you learn by sight. So you could benefit from turning your study notes into colourful graphs, charts or mind-maps. YouTube videos can also become your best friend.
Auditory
Being an auditory learner means you learn better by listening to others. Studying in very quiet rooms might prevent you from focusing. To get the most out of this learning style, try going to study groups where you can discuss the coursework. You could also record yourself reading your notes and then listen to it.
Reading/Writing
If you enjoy making notes and reading, then this could be your ideal learning style. You should make lots of notes both in class and from your textbook when you get home. Written flashcards will also help you remember important concepts.
Kinesthetic
A kinesthetic learning style means you learn best through practical experience, touch or involving your body in the learning process. You may also find it helpful to go through your notes while walking up and down. When you study past papers, practice doing it in an exam setting so your body remembers how you felt. This will make you more prepared.
