How you can Help Yourself

There are quite a few things you can do that will improve your learning experience. Remember, you are responsible for the outcome of your results. So put in the work.

Study Every Day

Make it a habit to learn something every day. Never miss a day, make time to sit with your books. You will fall in love with learning and experience the joy of solving problems. This will help you get through your coursework even quicker and minimise the stress you may feel during the exam period.

Use Your Resources

It’s your responsibility to use your resources. At Skills Academy we provide all our students with the material and support they need to aid them in their learning experience. The rest is up to you. So participate in discussions in study groups and work through your student manual.

Discover Your Learning Style

Everyone has different ways how they remember and dissect information. It’s important to discover yours to get the most out of your education. You can experiment with different learning methods to help determine yours.

Change Your Environment

Switch up the environment you’re studying in to inspire you to learn more. If you’re used to studying in your room, why not study on your lawn, backyard, local library, or park? Your learning environment will increase your productivity. So choose one with minimal distractions and one that encourages you to work harder.

How to Study Smarter

Why study harder when you can study smarter? Avoid over exhaustion but get the most out of your coursework by studying smarter.

Let go of old Habits

Kill all your ineffective learning habits and try different techniques to help you ace your exams. Here are a few things you should avoid:

  • Studying for long periods of time
  • Repeatedly reading one topic before moving on to another
  • Studying to improve memory, instead of studying to understand
  • Highlighting everything in the book that you might think is important
  • Studying in front of the television or with cell phones and smart devices

There are many techniques that you can use that will be more effective than the habits mentioned above.

Switch Things Up

Don’t just read what is in your student manual, but explore the topic a bit more on your own. You can do this by watching videos and seminars online. Read journals, blogs and other writings that talk about the topics that are discussed in your modules. This will help give you a better understanding of your coursework.

Avoid Cram Sessions

Avoid cram sessions at all times. Pace your studies to cover all the coursework and prepare for the exams properly. You can ensure that you avoid cramming by making a habit of studying every day and even study during your free time.

Gamify Your Study Sessions

Make studying an enjoyable experience that you want to make part of your life every day. You can do this by gamifying your learning experience. Introduce puzzles and quizzes to your routine to help you enjoy solving problems. Figure out how to reward yourself when you get the answers right.

Channel Your Inner Teacher

The best way to remember the information you’ve studied is to teach it to one of your peers. By repeating the information to someone else, you will increase your chances of remembering what you’ve taught. This will also increase your understanding of the work.
