What you need to know
Entrance Requirements
To do this last part of a diploma you will need to do this N6 Educare course. In order to start this course you will need a NQF Level 4 Qualification which is a matric certificate or the equivalent. If you did the N5 Educare course you will automatically be able to enter this course.
The N6 Educare course is taught in English, therefore you will need to be able to read and write in English.
Accreditation
The N6 Educare course is accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).
Assessment Structure
During this course you will have three open book assignments and a final exam accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). .

Subject | Description |

Educare Didactics N4 | This subject will teach you about educational toys, lesson planning as well as creative activities. You will also learn about baby activities and methods on how to take observations. |
Child Health N4 | In Child Health N4 you will learn about the general importance of health for a young child, nutrition of a young child which will include information on breastfeeding, an introduction to solid foods and nutritional problems. |
Education N4 | This course will give you the theoretical skills to confidently prepare for your exams and pass them successfully. In the subject you will prepare to give students the correct support. |
Day Care Personnel Development N4 | With this subject you will learn about the daycare system in South Africa and facility standards. You will also go through human development, interviews, self-image development and much more. |
Educare Didactics N5 | With this subject you will learn how to work with children in all stages of their development. You will also learn how to be creative and create appropriate playrooms and classroom entertainment. |
Entrepreneurship and Business Management N5 | This subject will teach you how to start your own business and it will give you the skills to draw up a business plan. |
Educational Psychology N5 | Here you will learn various learning theories. As well as how to spot school readiness and different modes of childcare delivery. |
Daycare Communication N5 | Throughout this course you are taught different forms of communication. The purpose of this subject is to show you the importance of effective communication in the daycare environment. |
Educare Didactics N6 | With this subject you will learn how to give mental simulation to children of all ages. You will also learn how to educationally entertain children of all ages. |
Daycare Management N6 | Here you will learn about the administrative duties in daycare management. This includes accounting, management and several other admin duties. |
Educational Psychology N6 | This subject will teach you how to understand children of all ages and it will give you the skills to see when your learners are ready for school. |
Daycare Communication N6 | With this course you will learn the importance of good communication in a professional daycare environment. You should have good written and verbal skills as you will be communicating with learners and parents. |
Study Upgrade
Once you have completed your course, you will need to do an 18 month practical in order to graduate and receive your certificate. This 18 month practical can be done at any daycare of your choosing.
