Can I Write Matric at Home? 

Unfortunately you can’t write the actual matric exam at home. You’ll write the exam at an exam centre most convenient to you. You can do practice paper at home. The Department of Education has past exam papers and memos you can download straight to your phone or computer. On the website you’ll find papers of every subject in English, Afrikaans and IsXhosa. So even if you can’t write the exam at home you can prepare for the exam at home. 

Ways of Getting a Matric

Don’t feel limited when it comes to your matric. There are many ways that you can get your matric certificate. You only have to focus on doing your best and working hard. 

Matric College

Apply for a Rewrite

If in the unfortunate case you failed your matric. You can apply to do a rewrite. All you need is to meet the requirements and then apply. 

Requirements: 

  • Have you failed more than two subjects? 
  • Missed an exam due to a medical reason? Do you have a doctor’s note? 
  • Unable to attend an institution of higher learning with your current marks? 

How Many Subjects are Needed to Pass Matric? 

In order to get the minimum pass in matric you will do at least 7 subjects. During your final year you will need to pass your home language with 40% along with another subject. You can then achieve 30% in 3 other subjects. These marks will get you a Higher Certificate pass.

Is NQF Level 4 the Same a Matric Certificate? 

Yes it is. A NQF level 4 is a National Certificate which is what a matric certificate is. Now there are other courses that will give you a national certificate. These courses are known as matric equivalent. Do note that although they are matric equivalent, it is not a matric certificate. 

Matric Equivalent Courses
