The 2019 Matric Results Have Been Released!

The long anticipated wait is finally over. Matric Results 2019 Mpumalaga have been released. Matriculants of Mpumalanga earned their province a 80.3% pass rate, a 1.4% increase from 2018.

The district of  Ehlanzeni had an outstanding pass rate of 84.6%.

Congratulations are in order for the class of 2019. Minister of Education, Angie Motshekga was excited to announce that matriculants of 2019 achieved a pass rate of  81.3%. 

National Matric Pass Rate for the Past 6  years:

The Matriculants of 2019 have out done themselves and earned a national record breaking 81.3%. Take a look at the progress  matriculants have made over the past 6 years. 

2019: 81.3%

2018: 78.2%

2017: 75.1%

2016: 72.5%

2015: 70.7%

2014: 73.9%

Mpumalanga Pass Rate for the Past 6 years:

The 2019 matriculants of Mpumalanga achieved a 80.3%  pass rate, with a 1.4% increase from the previous year. Looking at the figures below it is clear to see that the matriculants of 2019 worked hard.

How to get your Matric Results 2019 Mpumalanga

Are you on holiday or working a summer job? Don’t worry. You can still get your results. The Matric Results 2019 Mpumalanga,  are available from the, 8 January 2020. Here are a few ways to get your Matric Results:

SMS and USSD Services

You can register to receive your matric results sent to your mobile phone by SMS or USSD services. There is a R1.50 fee per SMS and R1.50 fee per minute with USSD services, free SMSes and minutes don’t apply. 

Follow these steps to get your results: 

  1. SMS your ID number and your examination number to 35658  or 
  2. Dial *120*35658# to register with USSD


Daily newspapers will publish matric results, the day it’s released. Use your examination number to find your results in the paper. Do keep in mind that individual subject results are not published, but the level at which you passed. 

Your High School or Exam Centre

You get to go back to school one more time. High school educators and exam moderators will hand out your statement of matric results at your school or exam centre.

What do the Matric Symbols Mean?

Receiving your final Matric Results puts you on track to starting your career. It’s important to understand the matric pass symbols


The information below explains what each symbol means and how it is calculated:


National Senior Certificate Pass(NSC)

A NSC pass is the minimum pass rate for matric. Learners may apply to colleges with this pass.

Requirements for a Certificate Pass

  • 40% for your home language 
  • 40% for two other subjects 
  • You can fail one subject but you have to get 30% in six of your seven subjects 

High Certificate Pass(HC)

Passing with a Higher Certificate, means that you will be able to study at a college and do a certificate course.

Requirements for a Higher Certificate Pass

  • 40% for your home language
  • 40% in two other subjects 
  • 30% for three subjects 


A Diploma pass means that you can study at a technikon and do diploma course.

Requirements for a Diploma Pass

  • 40% for  your home language 
  • 40% for four other subjects 
  • 30% for two subjects 

Bachelors pass(B)

Most learners aim for a  Bachelors pass. This is because with a bachelor’s pass you are able to enter any university, technikon or college and do a degree, diploma or a certificate course.

Requirements for a Bachelors Pass

  • 40% for  your home language
  • 50% for four other subjects
  • 30% for two subjects

Do you know what your options are if you passed or failed matric? The stress of finals consume learners and you forget to plan for after matric. But not to worry, here are a few options you have once you have recieved your Matric Results 2019 Mpumalanga.

Failed Matric

Going through 12 years of schooling and then failing matric, can feel like the end of your world. Take a moment to process your results, but don’t give up. You still have options even if you failed  matric.

Things you can do if you Failed Matric:


If you aren’t satisfied with your results you can have your paper remarked.

Here are the two steps you have to follow:

  • Complete an application online or get a copy at your exam centre or school.
  • Pay a fee of R122.00 for each paper you want remarked.

Applications for  re-mark close on the 22 January 2020.


Moderators try to mark all matric papers as quickly as they can, but mistakes do happen. If you feel that the effort you put in does not reflect the mark you received, you can apply to have you scripts rechecked.

Here are the steps to getting a re-check: 

  • Complete an application form online or get a copy at your exam centre or school. 
  • Pay a fee of R27 per paper you want rechecked. 

Applications for the re-check close on the 22 January 2020.

Apply for a Supplementary 

If you failed a subject (s) or you were unable to write your exam, you are eligible to rewrite your papers, this is called a supplementary exam. You won’t write the same paper but the paper will be based on the same work.

Here is what you need for a supplementary exam:

  • Fill in an application form
  • In the case of death in your immediate family , or medical condition on the day of your exam – a certificate has to be provided
  • If you want to improve your marks you have to attach a motivational letter stating why you need to rewrite.

The closing date for applications is 31 January, 2020



Study Without Matric

Yes, that’s right. At Skills Academy you can study without matric. Many learners don’t know that this option is available to them. We have a selection of alternative courses that are recognized and are the equivalent of NQF Level 4 or matric.

Requirements to Study Without Matric

  • You must be 16 years or older 
  • Your grade 10 results
  • Able to read and write in English
