What are Matric Mock Exams?
A mock exam has all the elements your final exam will have. You will get the same length of time to complete the question paper. The questions are set up the same way it will be asked in the exam. You will also be questioned on topics and concepts similar to what will be asked in the matric final exam.
Benefits of a Matric Mock Exam
Preparation – this is the main aim of the matric mock exam. But if you think that’s all it has to offer, you’re in for a treat. The mock exams have plenty of perks that will help you ace the final exam. Some of the many benefits provided by the matric mock exams include:
Ease Into the Exam Setting
It’s no secret that stepping into an exam venue can cause stress and anxiety. So the matric mock exam is a great way to get comfortable with the exam setting. You’ll know what to expect when it gets to the big exam day.
Get Familiar With the Question Paper
Don’t stress, you won’t need to answer questions on concepts you’ve never heard before. The questions are based on the curriculum. You’ll get familiar with how the questions are structured, instructions, and which sections to focus on. You can also use matric past exam papers to get comfortable with the question paper format.
Use Your Time Wisely
Your exam can be anywhere between one to three hours long. And in that time, you will need to complete various sections and answers. Instead of using too much time on one part, your mock exam will help you practice how to set out enough time for each question.
Practice Makes Perfect
The more you prepare, the better your chances will be of getting your matric. Your matric mock exam is a great way to practice and put your knowledge to the test. After the mock test, take a look at your answers. This is a great opportunity to study questions you answered incorrectly and create another mock exam for yourself.
Find Your Weakness
During the mock exam, you’ll be able to determine what is stopping you from reaching your full potential. Do you have trouble sticking to the time limit? Or do you have trouble understanding the instructions? Once you know what your weakness is, you’ll be able to work on it before the finals.

How to Set Your Own Mock Exam
Matric mock exams are usually set between the June and September end of term exams. But it has to be before the finals at the end of the year. But if your school does not set one, you can always arrange your own. That’s right, take a look at how to set your own mock exam:
Get a Venue – First you need to find a venue with no distractions. If you prepared a mock exam with your fellow students, make sure it is a spacious venue with a meter or two between desks.
Find an Invigilator – Whether it’s a teacher, friend, or family member, get someone to invigilate the mock exam. This will prevent anyone from cheating or using study notes.
Set a Timer – Take a look at the time given for the specific subjects you will be writing the mock exam on. If it’s two hours long, set the exam for that duration.
Read Instructions and Exam Rules – Have the invigilator read the exam rules, like bathroom breaks and cheating. You’ll be aware of the do’s and don’ts during the exam.
Gather Your Resources – From desks, to pens and papers, make sure you have all the resources you need ready.
