I Failed my ICB Exam – What Now?

Failing an exam might feel like the end of the world, but that’s far from the truth. There are options available to help you get the results you deserve. You can choose to either re-write or get a re-mark.

Re-write

If you are declared “not yet competent” in an ICB assessment, it means that you failed to achieve the required 60% pass mark. You will then need to re-write the subject. This can only be done once you re-register for a new digital PoE and complete the relevant assignments, tests and final exam.

Apply for a Re-mark

You can apply for a re-mark within one month after your results are released. This will cost you R950. If you request this, your Portfolio of Evidence will be reviewed and a detailed report will be written up for you. This will take about 28 days.

Re-mark process:

  • Make sure you understand the re-mark policy
  • Complete the application form
  • Pay the exam re-mark fee
  • Submit the application form and proof of payment via the ICB website

How can I Enter an Exam?

To prepare for your ICB exams, you need to go through a process. You will only be allowed to write your final exam if you have registered and paid for it. Use these steps as a guideline to help you get to your exam date.

Step 1 – When you are ready to start, you will need to pay your registration fee and register for your exams. Once you have done this, you will receive your PoE. This needs to be done correctly so you are well prepared for your exam.

  • Distance learning students – You will do your exam registration and payment through the student portal
  • Classroom students – Your college will do your exam registration for you.

Step 2 – For digital PoE’s, you will be given immediate access to MACCI. This is the platform where you will complete your PoE. Paper PoE’s will be sent via courier to you or your college.

Step 3 – Complete your course material with your training centre and follow the instructions in your PoE. Once this is done, you will be allowed to write your final exam.

Step 4 – Now the wait begins! Your exam results will be released about 6 weeks after you write your final exam.

Tips to Pass my ICB Exam

Want to make sure you ace your ICB exam? Avoid having to go through the same process twice by getting it right the first time. Follow the tips below so you have an understanding of what you need to do.

Practice

As a registered student, you will be provided with a practice test so you are familiar with the style and type of questions. The ICB also gives you access to exam resources that can prepare you for the final exam.

Create and Follow a Study Plan

If you want to achieve success, you need to plan for it. This can be done by creating a study timetable and sticking to it. Make sure you know exactly when and where you will be writing well in advance. This gives you enough time to plan.

Study in Shorter Periods

Life can get busy, and many students tend to leave studying to the last minute. This often leads to cramming, which is not the best way to learn information. Studies have shown that studying regularly for shorter periods is more effective.

Don’t Neglect Your PoE

Your PoE counts for 30% of your overall exam mark, so don’t neglect it. Make sure it’s ready before you have to write your final exam. Put as much effort into it as you would when preparing to write and give it your all.
