What’s the Difference Between Educare and Child Care Courses?

The difference between our Educare and Child Care is simple. Our Educare Courses are accredited NATED courses, while our Child Care courses are Provider Programmes. You will receive national credits for our Educare Courses. Our Provider Programmes are quality assured, and are designed to help students build professional skills. 

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for our Educare and Child Care Courses differ. Make sure you understand and meet the requirements before you enroll. 

Educare Courses

To get started for your career in educare, you need a Grade 12 Matric Certificate or equivalent. If you don’t have matric, have a look at our matric courses. If you weren’t happy with your final results, you may apply for an upgrade. Prospective students over the age of 21 who never finished matric may apply for the adult matric. 

Alternatively, you could apply for our non-accredited courses. 

Childcare Courses

Skills Academy offers several courses that don’t require matric certificates. Childcare Courses are among the many courses you can enroll in without finishing matric. All you need to enroll is grade 10. Prospective students should be at least 16 years or older to apply. You are also required to read, write and understand English. 


What do Educare and Childcare Professionals do?

Like both names imply, the Childcare and Educare professionals provide a caretaking service while parents are away. Children are at their most vulnerable during their early years, and most of their development and growth takes place during this time. Therefore, they need to be surrounded by loving individuals to help them develop and grow. Educare and Childcare Professionals have a huge responsibility, and only the most caring and loving must commit to this task.

1. Creche Assistant

Everyone needs to start somewhere. This entry-level career is a good start to prepare you for your career ahead. Your daily duties will include reading stories, encouraging participation, help with lesson plans and teaching little ones basic hygiene. 

2. Au Pair

Want to look for opportunities abroad? Our Educare and Child Care Courses could prepare you for an exciting Au Pair opportunity in a foreign country. Have fun exploring the city in your free-time, and create unforgettable memories with your host child. 

3. Teacher Assistant

Your daily duties comprise of assisting the teacher. Teacher Assistants generally provide additional attention to students and provide the teacher with feedback regarding their progress.

4. Babysitter

If you want to be in control of your own hours or need an extra income, then working as a Babysitter is your best option. As a Babysitter you will be responsible for creating a safe and fun environment for kids, while their parents or guardians are away. 


5. Childminder

Childminders usually work from the comfort of their own home, and they often work longer hours than other childcare professionals. Your duties as a Childminder includes organising fun play-based activities for children and nutritional meals. 

6. Nanny 

Nannies work full-time to create a fun learning experience to help kids with their emotional, physical and mental growth. They are fully invested in a child’s development and are also responsible for the safety and well-being of these kids.

7. Youth Staff

Combine your love for working with kids with entertaining and traveling. A  job as Youth Staff on cruise ships or at luxury resorts is the way to go. You will be responsible for creating fun activities and taking care of large groups of children. Brighten up their day and explore your beautiful surroundings in your free time.
