Print Correspondence: Although online courses are more popular, some institutions still prefer to use printed materials for their correspondence courses. Students usually get textbooks and study guides that can be ordered from the college. Assignments are mailed or faxed, if possible.

The Pacing 

A big difference between the two forms of study is the pacing of lessons. Correspondence is not in real time. Assignments are sent to students, completed and then returned. Some distance learning assignments are also completed this way, but others are done through online chats or video. Some courses have a specific time in which you need to complete it.
