Check out the Reputation of a College
When you choose your institution of learning, it is very important that you check their reputation. This could save you from being scammed or studying a course which carries little to no value. It is important you make sure that your qualification does as it is supposed to, which is to qualify you for your desired career.
Is Your College Legitimate?
A legitimate college qualification could open the door to new career opportunities. This is the biggest benefit of studying further. If your college of choice is not legitimate, you could end up spending a lot of time on a course which carries no value. This is why you should choose carefully!
Accredited vs Non-Accredited Courses
It is important to understand the difference between Accredited and Non-accredited courses. They both offer you unique benefits that help you progress differently. We provide both accredited and non-accredited (provider) courses.
Accredited Courses
These courses are regulated and recognized qualifications. This means that you are able to use this qualification to apply for jobs which require accredited qualifications. Companies use accreditation to establish the value of your course.
Non-accredited Courses
These are not regulated or recognized. This does not mean they do not add value though. These often teach you new skill sets which will benefit you in the workplace. This would be a positive addition to your CV but wont carry as much weight as an accredited course.
Where to Check Accreditation
Checking your institution’s accreditation is just as important as checking the expiry date on your food. Unfortunately it is not as simple as checking a label. There are institutions which focus on accreditation and allow you to check on their websites. These are a few websites you could use:
- Umalusi
- The Council on Higher Education
- QCTO (Quality Council for Trades and Occupations)
- FASSET
- Any one of the SETAs.
Steps to Check Out the Reputation of a College
Once you understand how to check the accreditation of a college, you should check their reputation. Even though they are accredited, you need to know how good they are. There a few things you can check to understand this:
- Read Reviews. Websites like Hello Peter are great websites to review institutions. These provide unbiased opinions on the institution.
- Check Accreditation. Use the above mentioned websites and search for your institution accreditation status.
- Examine Their Social Media. Facebook and Instagram are often great ways to see a company’s reputation. Read comments, posts and view images. This will paint a picture of their reputation.
