Frequently Asked Questions

Studying with us

When you choose to start studying a course, it is important to know that you are signed up with a reputable college. You will need to be registered with a college that has been through the accreditation process so that your potential employers will recognise your qualification and know that you can bring something to the table when you join their team. When a training institution is inspected for its accreditation, the accrediting body looks at the ability of the training institution to successfully offer the course for which they are being accredited. This means they look at the structures, venues, study materials, financial health, tax status and BEE status as part of the accrediting process.

Skills Academy has passed these and all the other accreditation requirements in full, check out our accreditation in full here: Accreditation

What is the big deal with Matric anyway? Just because you do not have a Matric certificate does not mean that you can not study further! Skills Academy offers many courses that you can study without a Matric. Look at what courses are available to you here: No Matric? No Problem!
Not every job requires you to have Matric, in fact, there are plenty of jobs that you don’t need to have a Matric to start. Did you know that over 50% of kids who start school in South Africa, will never sit in a Matric Class? That means that most of those people will still be able to find work and start a career.  The best way to get ahead with your future is to study a course that does not need a Matric. Check out one of our no Matric courses and see if there is a career that interests you here: No Matric? No Problem!

If you missed out on your opportunity to get a Matric Certificate, then there are many other options for study. Some of them are promoted as “Matric Equivalent” qualifications. So before you sign up for a Matric Equivalent Qualification, you must make sure you understand how such a qualification compares to a Matric Certificate. There are many institutions that can offer a quality curriculum and assessment in accordance with the regulations of the government. These institutions need to be registered with the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), and students need to meet the entrance requirements of the institution.  Contact Umalusi here: www.umalusi.org.za to find out which Adult Based Education and Training Institution is best for you.

You have discovered the career of your dreams, now you need a degree to get the job, but you didn’t finish your Matric. If you do not have a Matric don’t worry you are not alone in this, if you want to apply for a degree through institutions such as UNISA, don’t worry, there is still hope for you. If you don’t meet the minimum admission requirements for the degree that you want to study, you can start with a relevant lower-level qualification, such as a higher certificate or diploma, and from there you can apply for a degree course and then work through the admission requirements for each level of qualification
